About Edward Weeden

According to the passenger list, on 13 Apr 1635, "Edward Weeden," aged 22, was enrolled at London as a passenger for New England on the Susan & Ellen.Settled at Boston, where he was a carpenter. He was born about 1613. He married by about 1641 Elizabeth Cole, daughter of Samuel Cole {1630, Boston}. They had 8 known children. On 13 Jun 1677 "Elizabeth Weeden, midwife," deposed that she was aged "about 56 years." "Elizabeth Weeden the midwife died at Boston on 11 Jun 1691. Edward Weeden sailed for New England with John Mansfield {1635, Boston}, brother-in-law of Robert Keayne {1635, Boston}, & with Clement Cole {1635, Boston}, one of Robert Keayne's servants. Edward Weeden may, then have come to New England as a servant of Robert Keayne. Even after his marriage, Edward apparently continued to work for Keayne, & perhaps resided on Keayne's farm at Rumney Marsh, as there is no evidence of Edward's owning land himself until a 1666 bequest from his father-in-law, who had by then married Keayne's widow.
