Einion Yrth ap Cunedda

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Einion ap Cunedda (c. 420-500[citation needed]; reigned from the 470s[citation needed]) (Latin: Engenius), also known as Einion Yrth ('the Impetuous') was a king of Gwynedd.

One of the sons of Cunedda, it is believed he traveled with his father to north Wales in the early 450s to expel Irish raiders from the region. After his father's death, Einion inherited control over the newly founded kingdom of Gwynedd. Aided by his brother Ceredig, ruler of Ceredigion, and his nephew Meirion, ruler of Meirionnydd, Einion built upon his father's successes and further established his family's rule in the region. He was succeeded by two sons; Cadwallon Lawhir and Owain Ddantgwyn. -------------------- Einion Yrth ap Cunedda

-------------------- Brenin was also called Ennius Latin, and also called Enoch "the Impetuous" (Yrth = the Impetuous). Despite, apparently, being the seventh son, he must have been of strong character for he became heir to his father's central power-base of Gwynedd. The kingdom was named after the Irish people known, in Latin, as the Venodotæ.

Brenin married Gwen verch Brychan o Brycheiniog, daughter of Brenin Brycheiniog St. Brychan ab Anllach o Brycheiniog. Brenin married Prawst ferch Deithlyn of the Picts, daughter of Deithlyn of the Picts, before 450.

Brenin participated with his father, Cunedda Wledig ab Edeyrn of Britain, traveling with his eight of his nine brothers to North Wales to expel the invading Irish, which they did, according to Nennius, with "immense slaughter" circa 440.

Brenin was King of Gwynedd in northwestern Wales between 440 and 500.
