Notes

  • Eleanor's death year is unknown, but she was alive in 1330 when there was recorded that "Dame de Georges wife of Sir John Peche concerned in an assault on Margery wife of John de Donveld" (Thorne George's work, p. 25). Gorges (p. 34) in addtion points out that Eleanore's grandson, William Russell described her as a "grasping, avaricious, tyrannical woman." Though she married Sir John Peche, she continued to style herself as "Lady de Gorges."
