John McCain b. August 13, 1802 in Ireland. Was married sometime prior to 1833, possibly in Vermont to Martha Dickey b. February 9, 1807 in Ireland. This family was living near Massillon, Stark County, Ohio by 1837. They migrated to Wood County, Ohio around 1853 and settled in Plains Township, a few miles north of Bowling Green. John McCain died on April 11, 1879 in Plains Township. Martha Dickey McCain died on March 26, 1889 in Center Township. The couple is buried in Union Hill cemetery just north of Bowling Green.

Children: John McCane born about 1833 in Vermont. Married Sarah R. Reed on July 26, 1854 near Massillon, Stark County, Ohio. This family was in Wood County during the Civil War. John McCane died in Massillon, Stark County, Ohio on November 27, 1914.

Robert McCane born July 6, 1836 in Vermont. Married Elizabeth Turpen Wilson o n May 24, 1858 in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois. Died in Decatur on February 18, 1912.

Eliza M. McCain born 1838 in Stark County, Ohio. Married Peter J. Ferciot on June 9, 1855 in Wood County, Ohio. Died in Plains Township, Wood County, Ohio in 1915. They are buried in Union Hill Cemetery.

Sarah Jane McCane born December 17, 1842 in Stark County, Ohio. Married Thoma s McVitty (McVetta) in Perrysburg, Ohio on July 4, 1860. Died in Long Creek Township, Macon County, Illinois on December 18, 1916.

James McCain born March 12, 1845 in Stark County, Ohio. Married Rachael B. Gregory on October 25, 1871 in Wood County. Died on February 20, 1916 in Wood County. They are buried in Union Hill Cemetery near Bowling Green.

William McCain born about 1850 in Stark County, Ohio. Married Rebecca Elmira Woodruff on July 1, 1874 in Wood County. Died in northern Michigan around October of 1885.

Martha McCane born April 27, 1850 in Stark County, Ohio. Married John B. Gibson on August 30, 1868 in Bowling Green, Wood County, Ohio. Died in Hammond, Piatt County, Illinois on January 15, 1921.
