About Elsa Speigel
Elsa Spiegel was a milliner from Vienna. She was one of those deported to Minsk ghetto and shared the fate of thousands of deportees; starvation, sadistic cruelties and mass extermination.
It was three weeks before her thirty third birthday. She was never heard of again. She left her tiny son in Vienna, Jona Jakob Speigel, five and a half months. This saved his life.
Three and a half months later he was deported from Vienna to Theresienstadt. By a miracle he was still there on the last day of war when the camp was liberated by the Red Army.
