I have been told by the Espinosa and Torres relatives that my great, great grandfather Emiliano Espinosa Flores was a very handsome tall man. He had reddish auburn hair and big green eyes. Emiliano was a master carpenter., and was known to have a strong set of arms, a big heart, and a strong body. He enjoyed arts, music, and creating objects by hand. He was a master builder, and hand crafted many homes for a living. Many wooden homes en el Barrio Candelaria were built by my grandfather Emiliano or later on by his son Arturo.
Natives across Lajas, La Parguera, Mayaguez, Ponce, San German, Rincon and many other nooks knew Emiliano well, and contracted him for the skills of home designing and building. Building homes and furnishings was his Emiliano's passion, and a way of life for him.
My grandfather Emiliano married twice in his life. Emilianos first marriage was to Theresa. She was his first cousing on the Espinosa side. They shared children together - Maria, Flor, Arturo, Blanca. They divorsed, and he remarried. Emiliano married Rosa and together they had a young child named Josefina. He built my grandmother Rosa her home and the furnishings. .Rosa died within 5 yrs of having her daughter Josefina.
Rosa a fragile and petite lady, suddenly developed cervical problems and died at age 30, leaving her 5 year old baby Josefina in the hands of her sister Meli Ramirez Sepulveda. Josefina was kept in Lajas and raised by her aunt and uncle, alongside her 1st cousins Sister Vivina, Sarah, Enio, and Gueo Sepulveda.
Emiliano Espinosa Flores had a great spirit, and big heart. Everyone loved him, and he was a very handsome man, says Ketty the last of the Torres legends.
Emiliano kept working diligently, and raised his son Arturo as a craftman. Arturo was sure to become the next generation woodcrafter. He learned the skill of building and restoring homes jusy like his father. Emiliano loved all his children, and raised his only son Arturo as a craftman too. Father and son shared many experiences together, and worked diligently for their money fixing and building homes in Puerto Rico. Today,
Arturo remained in the same barrio called Barrio Candelario, as a retired craftman with his wife Alicia. They share their lives with three daughters two of which are Pharmacists. Emiliano was mostly recognized by cousins on both Torres and Flores Espinosa side of the family. My uncle Arturo passed away on Dec 2, 2010 at 85 yrs of age. Arturo also built his own home, and died in it. Titi Flor also has her original wooden home which was built by her brother Arturo, en el Barrio Candelaria.
My family is small in size, but very dear to my heart. I will love and treasure them forever.
