About Emily Kate Wilson (Newcomb)
My grandmother, Mildred Noce told me that her mother, Emily Kate went back to college as an adult and became one of the first female psychologist in New York. She was also an avid amateur photographer.
As a family, they traveled abroad by steamship every summer and each of her children would spend a year living with a host family in one of the countries that they visited so that they could become fluent in the language and culture.
The family was a member of the New York 500 Social Register.
Emily Kate Newcomb survived her husband and spent her last years in Woods Hole.
Mildred Noce Melody, her graddaughter (and my mother) lived with her from 1942 - 1945 while she worked at the Oceanographic Institution and waited for her husband to return from the war.
