OBITUARY ESTHER F. RANEY - 1901-1998 - ERIE - Esther F. Raney, 66(96), lifelong resident of the Erie area, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998 at Arkhaven Resident Care facility in Erie, where she had resided since February, 1995.
She was born Nov. 13, 1901, on a farm 4 1/2 miles north of Erie, a daughter of John E. and Jenettie Whitworth Fleming. She grew up ;and attended schools in Erie. After graduating from Erie High school in 1920, she attended Pittsburg State University. She taught in rural elementary schools n Neosho and Labette counties for 23 years.
She had been a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Monday Study Club, WWW Home Demonstration Unit and the former Rebekah Lodge in Erie. She enjoyed traveling.
She and Glenn F. Raney were married Feb. 9, 1935, in Lamar Mo. He preceded her in death Jan. 20, 1976.
Survivors include a sister, Pearl Walker, Vancouver, Wash.; and five nephews. She was also preceded in death by three sisters.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Erie Federated Church, the Rev. Ralph Jarboe, Jr., and the Rev. Bill Bingham officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Erie.
