About Felipe (Phil) Letelier Krause
Born June 2, 1971 in Prince Georges County Maryland, according to my mother Pam Letelier (Krause) I was the 2nd longest baby born in the hospital. I grew up in the suburbs of Washington DC and later in Baton Rouge, LA. I joind the US Army just 2 week after High School. I served in Operation Desert Shield and Later Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and Iraq in 1990-1991. I earned many awards including my highest, the Army Commendation Medal which was approved by the Secretary of the Army. I returned to Baton Rouge and attended Southeaster Lousiana University in Hammond. Later I moved back to Washington DC and then to New York City. While in New York City I worked only a few blocks from the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001. After 4 years in New York City I moved to Tampa, Florida where I live today.
My surname, Letelier is indeed a true Chilean name. Thomas de L'Hotellier et Floret (my 7th great grandfather) was born and raised in Saint Malo, France around 1670. He moved to Chile in the early 1700's or late 1600's and married Margarita de Vergara y Carvajal (my 7th great grandmother) and they had a son (my 6th great grandfather) Pedro Letelier y Vergara who was the first Letelier. The rumor is that Pedro's mother did not like to be refered to as "the hoteler" and had the name changed to Letelier. Would be great if the original name change documents is still on record in Chile or given to a family member. The spanish kept really good records! If you know the location of this document, I would love to have a copy of it.
My Ancestry over the last 2,300 years is made up of mainly Central, Western, Northern & Southern European nations including inorder of dominance; Spain - Germany (about equal), Switzerland - Scotland - France - Neatherlands (about equal), England, Portugal, Austria - Denmark - Sweden - Norway (about equal), North Italy (Genoa & Lucca) Greece, Poland - Ukraine (about equal) Rome (Italy). Others found include: Arab (Saudi Arabia & Iraq), and Inca.
Rome is the furthest back I have gone and most had made their way to Spain or other parts of Europe during the Empire and after Rome fell. This list will change as I discover more but I have been able to go back to my 48th Great Grandfather around 300 BC in Rome on my father's side. My mother has a lot of German blood but I have been able to trace my father's side to the Visigoths (German People) which sacked Rome and later occupied Spain.
1/16/2011 Update - As I suspected with many branchs of my tree in Spain, I found 2 branchs of Arab blood. After the Visigoths (German people) fall to the Arabs (Islamic) in Spain, I found 1 branch from around the year 720 or so. Parts of Spain (not all) were occupied by the Arabs (Islamic army) Until 1492. My family tree in Spain has some interesting historical figuers on both the Spanish and the Islamic side. If you are intested in knowing more please email me and I will be happy to explain further. I only found 2 branches so far on both my Grandfather Letelier-Icaza and My Grandmother Letelier - Perez - Cotopos that have Arab decent. Some of the nations my Arab ancestors come from are; Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Egypt.
3/18/2011 Update - Again as I suspected I have found 1 line of my ancestry going back to the Inca. The most recent ancestor is my 13th great grandmother, Barbola Diaz "La Coya". She was the daugher of Sayri Tupac and Cusi Huarcay both full blooded Inca. Barbola married Garcia Diaz de Castro and then this line became all Chilean Spaniard. Barbola Diaz is on my Grandmother Perez-Cotapos side. I have not found any other Inca nor any other American Indian (North or South) ancestrial line exept for this one.
3/18/2011 Update - Troy and Greece are now the furthest back I have gone, all the way back to around 1600 BC. Some is based on myth but some after 1600 BC are historical records of real people and their bloodline.
2/26/2012 Update - Lots of discoveries from my Dutch side (mother's side) that settled in New Amsterdam (New York). Found ansestors from Sweden and Italy. More to come!
7/1/2015 Update - Earlier this year I received my DNA results from familytreedna.com. Going back 6 - 8 generations on all lines I am 60% Southern European, 15% Central European, 12% Scandinavian, 10% English Isle, 2% Native American (Inca), 1% West African.
