About Florence May Byrne (Soderbom)
Florence Mother (Soderbom) Byrne, 92, left us from her longtime home to be with Ma and Pa Soderbom, March 18, 2010. Florence, a lifelong resident of Bridgewater, devoted her entire life to her large family and was known as Mother to many outside of her family. Brave and courageous, with a wicked sense of humor, she was always respected for her hard work and accomplishments. This feisty and independent woman was the matriarch of the Soderbom family and founder of The Byrne Girls. Always responsible, Florence was considered by many a historian of Bridgewater, documenting with photographs and stories. Florence leaves a legacy of hand-sewn bridal and prom gowns, cheerleader and dance costumes and her special gifts to special people of afghans and quilts. One of her happiest pastimes was at the beach, soaking in the hot sun and sipping a cold beer; her grandchildren referred to her as Grandma Sunbyrne. Florence was the loving mother of Judith Byrne-Ariel and Emory D. of Scituate, Janet R. Collins of Florida, Jerrilyn R. Viprino and husband George of Brewster, Kathleen F. Byrne and her partner David Edwards of Hatchville and the late James F. Byrne and his wife Janice Byrne of California; proud grandmother of Christy, William, Koren, Brandon, Amberlyn, Dean, Tracey, Scott, Susan, Meghann and Caitlin Buron; great-grandmother of Marshall, Marilyn, Magnus, Sophie, Matthew, Michael, Caitlin, Christopher, Andrew, Julia, Jared, Shaina and Leah; loving sister of Warren Soderbom and his wife Lorraine, Chris Shepard, Jake "James" Soderbom and Bette Stewart, all of Bridgewater, and the late Ruth Blanchard, Anna Krushas, Robert Soderbom and Myrtle Howard. Florence was a special friend and longtime companion of the late George Gregoire. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are being made by Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, formerly Prophett's Funeral Home, where Florence was employed by Bill and Eleanor Prophett for many years in her youth. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 22, at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater, at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. For those who wish, memorial gifts may be given in her name to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
