About Fool Dog
Fool Dog got his name in childhood from his father for his joking demeanor. After he became adult, because of his reckless character, his father gave him a new name Foolhardy Dog, meaning his reckless valor & bravery. Because he was a half-breed Sioux & Arikara his Sioux tribesmen used only a short form of his name Fool Dog, & also because there was some enmity between Arikara & Sioux. Foolhardy Dog participated in the battles of Little Bighorn and Rosebud on the side of Sioux. He died a few years after wedding of his grand-daughter Ann, or in the same year (circa 1893-1897) by natural death.
