1900 Census shows his immigration as 1875 having lived here 25 years, and his birth as Apr 1858, age 42 at time of census. 1920 U S Census records show his year of immigration to the USA as 1879 and naturalization in 1898. He most likley changed his name after arrival in the USA. The Holy Ghost Catholic Church of Centerville California (Now Fremont) records his name as Ferriera or Faudada (Portuguse spelling). He would have been about 16 years of age on immigration. He was succesful as a rancher and multipal farmer, and very knowledgable with livestock. Smith Ave in Newark California is named after him, the street ran along side his home and farm. He remarried to Izzie after his wife, Mary passed away, between 1910 and 1920. It is believed that he had 4 brothers who immigrated also who retained the Ferriera name.
