Married by the Venerable Archdeacon Merriman at St Bartholomew's. Lived at Grasslands Farm.

“Gras (s) Kop, Alb. Aly Q11.34 3326BA/BB 3307/2644 30 NE Grahamstown; 9-14 km E of Fort Brown. Granted 15 Aug 1850 Alb.QRR 9th/83 to James Howse. Alternates Graskop (correct); Grasslands Grass Cope (this latter a gross misspelling from Goldswain in Long 1949,2:158 for 1851.) Included in 1974 as a unit in the Andries Vosloo Kudu Reserve. On the farm are two prominent hills, Graskop East and Graskop West, 5 km apart on an E-W axis. Graskop East is on Grasslands farm, 501 m asl. Graskop West on Bucklands farm 537 m asl. Graskop West is a traditional prayer-for-rain site used by local Xhosas in times of severe drought. The summit of Graskop has the ruins of an old signal post and framework of a gun carriage.”
