General Roger Nelson was an original member of The Society of the Cincinnati, Maryland Society.


Info added per DAR's "Lineage Book of the Charter Members" by Mary S Lockwood and published 1895 states he "served as soldier in Col. Augustine Washington's troop of horse; rose to be brigadier general"


Birth: 1759 Frederick County Maryland, USA Death: Jun. 7, 1815 Frederick Frederick County Maryland, USA

US Representative from Maryland. He served in the Revolutionary Army, was wounded at the Battle of Camden and attained the rank of Brigadier General. After the war he studied law, was admitted to the bar about 1785 and practiced in Taneytown and Frederick. There he held several local offices, was a member of the State house of delegates in 1795, 1801, and 1802 and served in the State senate from November 1803 to November 1804. He was elected as a Democrat to the Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Congresses and served from November 6, 1804, until his resignation May 14, 1810. He was also one of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 1804 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against Samuel Chase, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. His last public office was as a elected associate justice of the fifth and sixth judicial circuit of Maryland in 1810. His son John Nelson was also a US Congressman from Maryland.
