Birth probably registered in Stoke-on-Trent in Q4 1886.

1911 is age 24, a Lance Sergeant in the 2nd Battalion, Grenardier Guards in the Marlborough Lines, Aldershot.

On marriage in 1913 in Fairford St Mary's Church, he was a police constable. His father was Herbert William, an engineer. His address was West Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire. James and Frederick Westbury are witnesses.

Enlisted in the Grenardier Guards (3rd Battalion) service number 12138 and died on the Somme as Company Sergeant Major. Is buried in Grove Town Cemetry, Maulte (just south of Albert). In September 1916, the 34th and 2/2nd London Casualty Clearing Stations were established at this point, known to the troops as Grove Town, to deal with casualties from the Somme battlefields.
