Brigadier George Pigot-Moodie, 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys): The First South African-born Recipient of the Military Cross - (http://peek-01.livejournal.com/33695.html)

George's first wife (The Hon Alexandra Rhoda Astley) died in 1918 shortly after their marriage; his brother (Charles Alfred Pigot-Moodie) died in action in 1915; and his only son (John Peter Pigot-Moodie) died of wounds received in action (1940). He married his second wife (Ruth Mary Elizabeth Bretherton-Stapleton) in 1930 (her only son died in 1942). He retired after WWII and moved to Melsetter, Rhodesia. Sadly Ruth died before they got to Melsetter and so his sister Minna, who had never married, moved out to join him and to keep house for him.

1901 England census - living at 8 The Drive North Wimbledon. When aged 12 he and his brother and sisters were living with their aunt (Edith Jessie Georgina) in England - where she made a home for them after their parents died.
