Commenced commercial career with Wm. Smith & Sons; has been secretary-treasurer Dom. Transportation Co. since its formation, 1883. A director Can. Transfer Co. One of the promoters The Starke Hardware Co. (L.P., 1903) and first resdt. Montreal Vehicular Traffic Assn., 1911. Entered the Victoria Rifles as a private. Rose through the various grades becoming Lt.-Col June, 1892; R.O., 1897; commanded the regiment at the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee review, 1897. A crack shot; commanded Canadian Bisley team, 1896. Holds 1st class V. B. certificate.

President Montreal Military Inst, 1894-5. A member of executive committee local branch St. John Ambulance Assn. One of the veterans in the field of Canadian sports, in his day had no equal as a snow- shoe runner. A Freemason, Conservative and. a life member St. Andrews Sac., Montreal ; a Presbyterian.
