Enlisted from Philadelphia [?] and was mustered into the United States service in Phila Penna to serve 4 years as a MARINE in the U.S. NAVY under the command of J. Zeilin Brigadier General and commander of U.S. Marine Corps. Comrade Margerum was mustered into the United States service at Phila Pa. as a Wheelwright [?] served as a Marine he sailed around the world while in the service and [?] experianced many arduous duties they were with ADMIRAL FARRA[GUT, Gulf Coast] squadron and CAPTURED FTS HUGAR and BLAKELEY in M[obile] Bay on Apl 11 1865 after the war sailed to all principle [commerce ports...] he had a wide experiance of service in the navy and [?] efficient services for his car[eer...]
