Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Neil Manternach of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, will officiate. Private entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and at the chapel after 10 a.m. Monday. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; his mother, Alma Ferring of Lansing; two daughters, Tami (Terry) Abraham of Lisle, Ill., and Debbie Ferring-Seaton of Cedar Rapids; a son, Jeff (Stacie) Ferring of Palo; sisters, Donna Danzer, Mary Garrett and Rita Heim; brothers, Bill, Tom and Ron Ferring; and six grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Abraham, and Sanders, Ashten, Sloane, and Saylor Ferring. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Ferring; brothers, Keith, Steven, Kenny and Dwayne; and two sisters, Virginia and Bernice. Jerry was born Oct. 29, 1936, in Lansing, Iowa, to Joseph and Alma Cole Ferring. He married Shirley Wolfe on Oct. 24, 1959, in Cedar Rapids. He was a truck driver for Teamsters Local 238 for 25 years, retiring in January 1999. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially at his lake home at Holiday Lake. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and was an Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
