Gerald D. Gastineau, 93, of Bismarck, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, in Farmington.
He was born April 12, 1917, in Centerville, MO, the son of the late Cahm and Julia Sutterfield Gastineau.
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Martha McNail Gastineau.
He is survived by a son, Gerald, R. (Rick) Gastineau and wife, Francis, of Rocky Mt., MO; a daughter, Rebecca Sue Vrbosky of Bismarck; two grandchildren, Andrea Norgren and husband, Henrick; and Daniele Gastineau and husband, Eric Gates; three great-great-grandchildren, Adam, 8, Ella, 4, and Cohen, 1; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Gerald spent 42 years as a teacher and coach, and was superintendent of schools for the last 32 years of his educational career.
On June 14, 1940, he was united in marriage with his loving wife of 65 years, Martha McNail Gastineau, in Fredericktown, MO.
He was a member and elder in the Flat River Church of Christ, a Mason and member of both the Rotary and Lions Club.
In October 2009, Gerald was inducted into the Herculaneum High School Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed his retirement years and kept quite busy raising cattle on three farms. Gerald also enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially when visiting the couple’s grandchildren in Montana and Sweden.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, at Shipman Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Flat River Church of Christ.
Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m., with Bernie Crum officiating.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Ellington City Cemetery.
