In 1907, William and Eliza Coverdale took their granddaughters Gertie and May along on a trip back to visit relatives in Leeds. When she was almost 102 years old, Gertie could still recall the trip. She almost missed the ship on the return voyage because she had gone off exploring on her own on the way to the dock. The family departed from New York on the RMS Lucania and arrived in England on June 8, 1907. They traveled 3rd class. |
