The seventh child of the family, Gervais, was hired on 31 July 1688 by Francois Chorel, Sieur de Saint-Romain. Did Gervais go out West in search of furs? If so, it seems that he returned in rather poor health. On 20 September 1689, he was hospitalized at the Hotel-Dieu of Quebec. He stayed at this institution beginning in 1691 until his death on 27 January 1693. A doctor today would perhaps say he had tuberculosis.
