About Gracia Rodriguez
As for young Gracia Rodriguez b. 1852, he was to die an early death. After his brother’s trial for the Visalia stage robbery and the shoot out on Vine Hill, he began to make secret visits back to see his parents in Branciforte. On September 28, 1872, during one such visit, he went into a Fandango hall at Whiskey Hill, now Freedom, near Watsonville. During an evening of drinking and gambling, he began to quarrel with an Indian named Miguel Soto over a young woman in attendance. Suddenly Soto pulled a pistol and shot Rodriguez through the head killing him instantly. He was not yet 21 years of age.
