Gunild Kittelson Nelson, daughter of Hans and Haldis Gollock Kittelson, was born near Clermont, Iowa, Sept. 17, 1853, and passed away July 15, 1946, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara Houg, at St. Olaf, at the age of ninety-two years, 9 months and twenty-eight days.

She was baptized by the pioneer pastor, Rev. Koren, in the East Clermont congregation, where she was also later confirmed. On April 4, 1876, she was united in marriage to Berener Nelson. They made their home in the Clermont vicinity the first two years of their married life. In the spring of 1878 they moved to their home in Marion township where she resided for a period of 68 years, until Feb. 11, 1944, when she moved to the home of her daughter, where she was tenderly and lovingly cared for until her death.

Mrs. Nelson was one of the pioneers of the Marion Lutheran church, being the oldest member at the time of her passing. She was a charter member of the Marion Ladies' Aid. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1926, which was a surprise given by the Marion congregation.

She was preceded in death by her husband 18 years ago and by her only son, Henry, who died at the age of one and one-half years.

She leaves to mourn her passing five daughters, Tena, Nellie (Mrs. A.O. Wold), Clara (Mrs. O.K. Houg), all of St. Olaf; Josie (Mrs. O.T. Tollefson) of Decorah; Helen (Mrs. H.E. Landsgard), and eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Gunderson, of Elgin.

She was a kind mother and a good neighbor, always willing to give of her time and strength to assist others.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara Houg, at St. Olaf, and at 2 o'clock at the Marion Lutheran church at Gunder, with Rev. V.A. Fisherbeck officiating. Solos were sung by L.O. Reierson and Clifford Kittelson and a quartette composed of Mr. and Mrs. L.O. Reierson, Hildur Opsand and Randolph Reierson, sang, accompanied by Mrs. Henry Vellersven at the piano. Casket bearers were Henry and Clifford Kittelson, Alphie and Clarence Thorson, Harry Gunderson and Kenneth Mork. Interment was made in the Marion cemetery.

Card of Thanks We wish to express our sincere appreciation for the kindness shown us during the death and burial of our beloved mother. We wish especially to thank Rev. Fisherbeck, the pallberaers, those who sang and all who helped in many other ways. The Nelson Family.
