About Guy Palmer Smith
Guy Palmer Smith died peacefully in his sleep of an apparent heart attack on October 7, 2008. He was 87 years old and resided at 2862 West 750 North in Provo, Utah at the time of his death. Guy was born October 1, 1921 in Taylor, Arizona to Henry Aikens and Lula Palmer Smith. He was honorably discharged from the Army after World War II, and married Lola Foy in Mesa, Arizona on June 20, 1947. She died on October 16, 1960.
Guy married LaRae Cheney Anderson on June 23, 1961. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in many callings including twice as bishop and as an ordinance worker in the Los Angeles Temple. He was a successful CPA in private practice for 37 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was beloved by many people. He had an infectious laugh which crinkled his eyes. He was kind and steady and his children adored him. He was sharp and sensitive to the end. We weren't quite ready for him to leave us.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, LaRae Smith; three sons, James L. Anderson of Eagle Mountain, Utah; Randy C. Smith of Portland, Oregon; and Mark W. Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Claudia Ross of Grand Terrace, California; and Becky Smith of Pacifica, California; 18 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 1 p.m. in the Parkway Stake Center, 2801 West 620 North, Provo. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Provo, on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the Stake Center on on Monday from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery. Published in the Deseret News on 10/16/2008.
