About Gycelle Anne Cote
She was strangulated at age 12 by a male teen. On April 30. 1984 in Sanford, Maine 12 year old Gycelle Cote was found murdered in the Mousam River. Rumors had spread throughout the small town a few months earlier that a Satanic cult was going to carry out a human sacrifice on Halloween. After several people received threatening letters signed "The Cult", police arrested several youths and people dismissed the whole thing as a prank. Eyewitnesses placed Scott Waterhouse with the girl on the day of the murder. When questioned by the police, Waterhouse, a juvenille deliquent with a history of medical problems, at first denied killing the girl, but then babbled on and on about Satanism. His involvement in Satanism dated back to 1983 after he read Lavey's Satanic Bible. He said after that he began to question why God allows bad things to happen and enjoyed the idea of Satanism's "whatever floats your boat" philosophy. Upon investigation the police discovered evidence linking him to the murder and other threatening letters that Waterhouse had written that were similar to the ones about Halloween written earlier. He was convicted and given life in prison with no chance of parole. Now he'll have a lot of time to wonder why Satan allows bad things to happen.
