About Hannah Mead (Potter)

Hannah Potter was born on Sep 8 1636 in New Haven, Connecticut.

(Ben M. Angel, 9th great grandson, notes: the above assertion has a significant chronological problem. New Haven Colony was not created until the arrival of Theophilus Eaton's party on 14 April 1638. Most of his party set sail together from England, arrived at Boston, and decided that the Puritans there were just too "immoral." After Eaton purchased the land from native tribesmen, he lead his party to their "New Haven," right at the edge of Dutch territory. Hannah likely originated from England - or maybe Boston, and arrived at New Haven as a toddler.)

She died on Nov 13 1700 in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut. She married John Mead on Jul 10 1657 in Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

There is a theory that Hannah Potter was the daughter of John Browne and Dorothy. After John's death, Dorothy's second husband was William Potter, who adopted Hannah and gave her the name Potter.

John Browne, b. 1598, came over on the Lyon in 1632 and settled in Watertown, Mass. His parents were Edmund Browne, b. 1547, and Mary Camphorne, b. 1562, daughter of William Cramphorne and Joane Plow. Edmundis the son of William Browne, b. abt 1505, and Joan, b. abt. 1510. All ofthe Brownes were born in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.
