About Hans Jacob Fackler

Their descendants settled in York County, Pennsylvania; Augusta County, Virginia; and Paulding and Tuscarawas County in Ohio. This information is from a webpage by Terri Smith.

Five brothers came to America from Switzerland: Hans Jacob Fackler, the oldest child, arrived on 10/8/1737, followed by Hans Adam (10/2/1749), Johann Christoph (10/7/1749), Hans George (9/29/1750), and Johann Wendell (11/1/1763). From O. A. Fackler, family genealogist, at the Fackler Family Reunion, July 29, 1954, in Ashland, Ohio.

"If these are brothers does someone have the church records for birth and baptism from Switzerland ? Did someone find these early immigrants and assumed that they had some connection if Switzerland? I'm very interested to know how someone came to this conclussion. Has anyone found the Wills of these immigrants?" - Marsha Senyk via e-mail 1/23/2002.

Hans Jacob Fackler arrived in Philadelphia, PA on 8 October 1737 on the ship Charming Nancy, Charles Stedman Commander from Rotterdam and Plymouth. There were 105 men, 25 boys under 16, and 107 woman and girls for a total of 237 passengers. Hans Jacob’s wife Magdalena, son Adam (under 16) and daughter Barbara accompanied him. Hans Jacob Fackler was a pioneer in the establishment of York Town, PA, and built one of the first houses there. He owned a tavern and was an inn keeper most of his life. "The book "Thirty Thousand Names of Immigrants in Pennsylvania from 1727 to 1776" by Prof. I. Daniel Rupp, pages 110 – 112, lists Hans Jacob Fachler aboard the ship Charming Polly. This revised book was published in 1975 and scanned to a CD. You could probably find an original version at the state library to check this out. The book "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" Volume 1 1727-1775, page 188 lists that Hans Jacob Fackler was aboard the Charming Nancy." per Masha Senyk e-mail of 1/23/2002.

Fackler, Jacob. Executors: Gotleib Zeigler and Frederick Jans.

Yorktown Township.

Wife: Magdalena Fackler. Children: (Names not given.) Sons-in-law:

Gotlieb Zeigler and Frederick Jans.--from Marsha Senyk e-mail of 1/23/2002.

From Louis Facker's e-mail of 2/6/2004: "Hans Jacob Fackler was the one who came to America with his family in 1737 and obtained land from William Penn's son and heir Thomas. Two more of his direct family followed him in 1749. I believe that Hans George who arrived in 1750 and Johann Wendel who arrived in 1763 were the sons of Johannes Georg Fackler, Hans Jacob's brother. This is an assumption based on the names of the children according to the German naming tradition and also the ages of Hans Jacob and Johannes Georg. Further inquiry is absolutely necessary to prove this, but it seems to be a good lead."
