Hans Hansen or Jansen (Hans Jansen Van Noordstrandt). Hans was born about 1610 on Norstrand Island, Netherlands, and migrated to New Amsterdam in 1638. He worked as an interpreter and often traveled between Holland and the new settlement. He married Rymerig Volkert, and they had 4 children-Marretje, Hans, Simon, and Elsa. His wife died in 1645, and Hans placed Marritje who was just 9 and her sister Elsa in the home of a farmer Phillip Garretsen where they learned the art of homemaking. Hans died in 1690 in Flatlands, Brooklyn. After Jurian's death Marritje remarried to Jacob Jansen. Marritje died after 1670 in Ulster, Kingston County, New York.
