About Harold Arthur Canetti
I am Harold's niece, Hilary. I was a bridesmaid, along with my sister Valerie, at Harold's wedding to Olive in 1947. I remember being told that Uncle Harold had been a sergeant in the army during the war; that he had been in the invasion of Europe; and that his last duty before being demobbed was in Kenya. My mother Eve and Harold were the youngest siblings in the family and were very close. My mother was absolutely devastated when Harold died at the age of 44. My grandmother, Harold's mother, was even more grief stricken as Harold was her second son to die at a young age. It wasn't until my own daughter Debbie died of cancer at age 39 that I could realize how Harold's death had affected my mother and grandmother.
