A rather long account (extract below) in the "Townsville Daily Bulletin" of Saturday 4 February 1933, describes
"YOUTHS FINED. Melrose Park Incident. Five youths named Harry Newsholme, Cecil Edward George, Edward George, George Ruddell, and Stephen Ruddell appeared before Mr. G. A. Cameron, P.M., in the Summons Division of the Police Court on Fri day morning, conjointly charged that at Melrose Park on January 25, they injured certain property of the Townsville City Council, namely, two sanitary conveniences, also a bough shed, contrary to by-law 684 of the City of Townsville by-laws... Mr. Cameron imposed a fine of £1/5/- on each defendant. Including costs. In default three days imprison ment Seven days were allowed to pay the fine."
When the above occurred, Harry was around 20 years old. It seems to have been a bit of an indicator of his future, as a trawl through the newspapers of the time show Harry also was fined for various other misdemeanours, such as riding a bicycle without a lamp and failed to appear in court to answer a charge of use of obscene language in Stanley Street (where his father was assaulted by police many years before).
The "Townsville Daily Bulletin" of Friday 13 August 1948 reports that "Harry Newsholme, 36, meat worker, forfeited bail of £5 when be did not appear in the Court of Petty Sessions on Thursday morning to face a charge of being under the influence of liquor while in charge of a bicycle in Flinders Street on August 11."
