About Henrietta Laing Allan (Matheson)
"A sitting at the Divorce Court was held yesterday afternoon, the chief justice presiding, to deal with the case of Singers vs Singers, the wifes petition forthe dissolution of her marriage on the ground of cruelty and adultery. The petitioner who was represented by Mr. Skerrett, stated that she was married to respondent, Joseph Singers, at Dundee in1882, and afterwards in 1891, followed him to New Zealand, where shejoined him in Woodville. Afterwards they moved to other places in the same district. Her husband repetedly ill-treated her, and on several occasions had been sent to the gaol for it. Ultimately she left him, and he then lived with another woman. Further evidence was called, at the conclusion of which a decree nisi was granted, with costs against respondent, who did not appear and was not represented."
