"At one o'clock on saturday, an inquisition was taken before Mr Birchall, the Secondary, at the Office of the Sheriff of Middlesex, in Red Lion Sq, and a Special Jury, to assess damages in the cause in which Henry Baring Esq MP was plaintiff, and Captain Webster defendant, for the seduction of the wife of the former. The defendant suffered judgement by default. The damages were laid at £10,000. The Court was crowded by persons of rank, who were friends of the parties in the cause. - Mr Tindall read the declaration.
Mr Brougham stated the plaintiff's case.
Mr Denman for the defendant.

£1,000 damages were awarded.

"Sir John Nicholl, on Thursday, gave judgement in this case, after hearing Counsel on both sides...the Court was of the opinion that Mr Baring was entitled to the relief which he prayed." Divorce granted.
