Henry Gamble Davidson was the fifth son of Rev. Andrew Baker Davidson and wife Susan Dorman. He was raised in Rockbridge County, Virginia, and attended Washington College, graduating with his Doctor of Medicine degree. He settled in Richmond, Virginia. He joined the Confederate States Army as a medical officer in the Virginia Infantry, during the US Civil War. After the war, he became the president of Southern Insurance Company of Richmond. He died in January, 1884.
