About Henry Goodloe Johnston, Sr.

Henry is reported to have moved to Mississippi Territory in 1810. He landed at Walnut Hill (now Vicksburg) and settled near Clinton in Hinds County. According to a newpaper account in regard to the death of his son, he was postmaster at Rocky Spring in Claiborne Co., MS. in October 1822. He was probate judge of Hinds Co., MS. for twenty years.

Henry returned to Virginia for the settlement of his mother's estate. He received the 'Waller Family Prayer Book' and the 'Goodloe Family Bible' which are still in the possesion of a branch of the family. Claiborne Co., MS. Deed Book F p. 315 Dec. 16, 1820. Isaac Powers and his wife, Sarah, sold 26 acres of land to Henry G. Johnston for $64.50; signed before Judge Walter Leake.
