NOTE from Craig Sheldon regarding Henry's middle-name: Henry's middle-name John was found in the 1873 baptism record of Henry and Jane's daughter, Clemence Constance Jones.

However, according to the Death Notice of Henry and Jane's son, James Christian Jones, Henry's middle-name was actually Thomas; it's possible, though, that this is a clerical error as James also had a son named Henry Thomas Jones.

NOTE from Jan A Jones regarding Henry's middle name : There are three prominent records suggesting that Henry only had one name: Henry's Bible (1872 ) is consistent with the naming of the family members by their full names. His own name is indicated as Henry (no middle name). The DR Church Confirmation Records of Uitenhage is also consistent with naming individuals by their full names- the entry for Henry on 24 November 1857 also shows only one name. His wedding record (1860) also shows only one name.

It is possible that the family member who has submitted the names for the Death Notice of James Christian JONES thought his names were Henry Thomas due the fact that James Christian had named one of his sons likewise - this was however 75 years after Henry's death and a mistake could easily have been made.

Five baptism records of Henry's children are available and only one (Clemence Constance) shows a second name of John - this could be a clerical error - Henry Jones and Henry John sound similar when one person is reading and another is writing.
