On his father's death on 15 April 1526, he succeeded as the second Earl of Worcester. From his mother, he inherited the title of Baron Herbert"

-------------------- Henry Somerset, 2nd Earl of Worcester (c. 1496 – 26 November 1549) was an English nobleman, son of Charles Somerset, 1st Earl of Worcester and Elizabeth Herbert, 3rd Baroness Herbert. On his father's death on 15 April 1526, he succeeded as the second Earl of Worcester. From his mother, he inherited the title of Baron Herbert.[1]

He married twice:

   Firstly, by papal dispensation dated 15 June 1514, to Lady Margaret Courtenay, daughter of William Courtenay, 1st Earl of Devon, by Catherine of York, daughter of Edward IV, King of England. Margaret died before 15 April 1526. The union produced no children.[2][3][4]
   Secondly, before 1527, to Elizabeth Browne, daughter of Anthony Browne,[5] Knt., by Lucy, daughter of John Neville, 1st Marquess of Montagu. Somerset died on 26 November 1549. The children of Henry Somerset and Elizabeth Browne were:
       William Somerset, 3rd Earl of Worcester (d. 21 February 1589). Heir and successor of his father.
       Lady Lucy Somerset (1524- 23 February 1583), who married John Neville, 4th Baron Latimer.
       Francis Somerset, often said to have died at the battle of Pinkie in 1547, but fought at the siege of Leith in 1560, and was Member of Parliament for Monmouthshire, 1557 & 1558.[6]

       Lady Anne Somerset (d. 17 October 1596), married Thomas Percy, 7th Earl of Northumberland. Her husband was beheaded on 22 August 1572. They had four daughters and one son (died young).

       Lady Joan or "Jane" Somerset married Sir Edward Mansel.

  • Henry Somerset, 2nd Earl of Worcester was born circa 1496. He was the son of Charles Somerset, 1st Earl of Worcester and Elizabeth Herbert, Baroness Herbert.1
  • He married, firstly, Margaret Courtenay, daughter of William Courtenay, 1st Earl of Devon and Catherine Plantagenet, circa 15 June 1514, with a Papal dispensation.2 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Browne, daughter of Sir Anthony Browne and Lady Lucy Neville, before 1527.2 He died on 26 November 1549.2 He was buried at Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales.2

In 1513 at Calais, France, he organised the Field of the Colth of Gold.3 He succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Herbert [E., 1461] before 21 March 1512/13.1 He was styled as Lord Herbert between 1514 and 1526.1 He held the office of Constable of Usk Castle on 6 May 1514.4 He held the office of Constable of Dynas Castle on 20 September 1514.4 He held the office of Steward and Constable of Brecknock Castle on 26 May 1523.4 He fought in the Duke of Suffolk's campaign in France between August 1523 and December 1523.1 He was invested as a Knight on 1 November 1523 at Roye, France, by the Duke of Suffolk.1 He held the office of Constable of Caerleon Castle on 30 March 1525.4 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Worcester [E., 1514] on 15 April 1526.1
