Henry Thompson, the son-in-law of John Brown, was an abolitionist who participated in the Pottawatomie Massacre in which five pro-slavery settlers were hacked to death in Kansas in 1856. His brothers, Dauphin and William, were both killed in the raid on Harper's Ferry.
