An absconded slave, Thomas, stole sheep from Hercules and was later caught by Louis de Swart. De Swart then brought the slave to the house of Hercules. The other run away slaves then decided to free Thomas and entered Hercules' house, murdered De Swart and stabbed Hercules with a knife who then ran outside. The next morning he was found dead in the field. His eldest daughter, Maria, was raped and murdered by the slave, Lodewyk. (Lodewyk committed suicide while in prison )
