About Hermanus Philippus Grobler

Hermanus Philippus Grobler (*11.01.1829) (≈06.04.1829 Cradock) Hermanus survived the Battle of Blood river. Later he participated in the war against the Mapog tribe and in the Civil War. A Dorslandtrekker and member of the Dorsland Trek Commission, he participated in negotiations with the Portuguese authorities and played a pivotal role in the development of the Afrikaner-community at Humpata, Angola (September 1880).

Note: It is sometimes mentioned that Hermanus's youngest child, Pieter Ignatius Grobler (*28-04-1881 Humpata, Angola) was the very first Boer child born in Angola. This is incorrect, there were a few Boer children born before Pieter such as Jan Johannes Alberts (*28-01-1881 Humpata, Angola), the son of the 1st Dorsland Trek Leader, Gert Alberts (*1836) and his 2nd wife, Petronella Francina Le Grange.
