Hertha Spier é uma sobrevivente. Perdeu todos os familiares, eliminados um a um no holocausto. A última a partir foi sua irmã, que morreu em seus braços dentro de um campo de concentração. Por causa dela, abdicou da oportunidade de incorporar a Lista de Schindler para não perdê-la de vista. Foram cinco anos de sofrimento passando por três campos de concentração. No fim da Guerra, era prisioneira de Bergen-Belsen.

Com 26 anos, quase sem vida, pesava 28 kg e não tinha nada além de sua integridade. Até hoje leva no braço seu número de prisioneira,”A21646″, tatuado quando esteve confinada em Auschwitz. O número deu título a um livro escrito sobre sua vida, “A Sobrevivente A21646”. Depois da guerra, veio para o Brasil e foi acolhida por amigos.

Através deles, conheceu o homem com quem se casou e teve dois filhos, constituindo uma nova família. Dona Hertha sofreu novo baque ao ficar precocemente viúva e tendo que criar sozinha seus dois filhos. Conseguiu formar dois médicos.Dona Hertha, hoje com 91 anos, é bem apegada à vida e totalmente lúcida. Vive em Porto Alegre e desfruta diariamente dos merecidos mimos dos filhos e netos.

Hertha Spier is a survivor. She lost all family members, eliminated one by one, in the Holocaust. The last was her sister, who died in her arms in a concentration camp. Because of her, she gave up the opportunity to be on Schindler's List, so as not to lose sight of her. She endured five years of suffering through three concentration camps. At the end of the War, she was a prisoner at Bergen-Belsen.

At age 26, almost lifeless, she weighed 28 kg and had nothing but her integrity. Until now she bears on her arm prisoner number, "A21646" tattooed in Auschwitz where she was confined. The number is the title to a book written about her life, "The Survivor A21646." After the war, she came to Brazil and was greeted by friends.

Through them she met the man she married and had two children, constituting a new family. Hertha suffered another setback when she was widowed very early and still had to raise her two children on her own.

Hertha, now 91 years old, is attached to life and fully lucid. She lives in Porto Alegre and enjoys well-deserved day of pampering children and grandchildren.
