About Hon. Jacob Æmilius Irving

Jacob Æmilius Irving (1797 – 1856) was a soldier and political figure in the Province of Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada from 1843 to 1856.[1]

He was born in South Carolina, the son of Jacob Aemilius Irving. Irving served in the 13th Regiment of Dragoons, reaching the rank of lieutenant. He married Catherine Diana Homfray in 1821 and came to Upper Canada with his family in 1834. Irving helped suppress the Upper Canada Rebellion, serving on the Niagara frontier. He settled in Newmarket. Irving became the first warden for the Simcoe District in 1843.[1]
