Hon. Major Ebenezer Pomeroy was born on 30 May 1669 at Northampton, MA. He was the son of Deacon Medad Pomeroy and Experience Woodward. Hon. Major Ebenezer Pomeroy married Hannah Strong, daughter of Elder Ebenezer Strong and Hannah Clapp, on 4 May 1691. Hon. Major Ebenezer Pomeroy married Sarah King, daughter of John King and Sarah Holton, on 26 December 1692. Hon. Major Ebenezer Pomeroy died on 27 January 1754 at age 84.

Ebenezer was one of the leading citizens of Northampton. He was a gunsmith and a man of energy and ability.

He was prominent in civil and military affairs, as Captain, Major, Commissioner to meet with the Indians at Albany in 1724, member of Her Majesty's council of the Province (Anne, dau. of James II.), etc; and his duties as High Sheriff were manifold. He was an active and steadfast Christian and a deacon in the church.

During Queen Anne's war with Canada, in 1711, among the eighteen companies furnished by Massachusetts, one company was from Hampshire county, of which Ebenezer Pomeroy was in command, with a commission as Captain. This company wa under pay from June 2, to Oct 26, 1711. The pay roll amounted to £367.2.10, but the muster roll of the company has not been preserved. The several expeditions against Canada during this war cost Massachusetts in the aggregate about £80,000. He engaged also in King William's war at times between 1688 and 1698.
