NOTES

  1. Arrived at Simon’s Town aboard the Zoroaster as a member of Dyason’s party.
  2. Transferred to the Brilliant for the journey to Port Elizabeth.
  3. After a failed attempt at farming near Bathurst he joined the government service
  4. He was appointed as the first Civil Commissioner for Port Elizabeth in 1828
  5. Appointed Agent-General to the frontier tribes in 1834
  6. Acquired a farm Coega near Port Elizabeth in1838.
  7. He renamed it Hougham Park
  8. Became Civil Commisioner of Albany until his retirement in October 1852

  11. She was so shocked at the death of her daughter that she died immediately afterwards.
