Hugh Lemming was a soldier during World War I. He was inducted at Manchester on May 16, 1918. He was a private in the 15th Aero Construction Company. Discharged on December 10, 1918, he had a star on the flag at the Manchester Methodist church. Hugh was described as "having become an expert mechanic, he was in construction work in London at the close of the war".
After coming back from the war, Hugh later worked at the drug store in Manchester that bore his last name. Hough and Lemming. In the 1960's he sold Gordon Townsend a horse named Prince that stayed in the family for many years.
