The 1850 US Federal Census was taken on September 24, in Washington Township, Putnam County, Indiana. There are three branches of the Cox family tree represented in this census. First are James M. (21) & Sarepta (22) Cox. The next residence lists Isaac (59) & Wealthy (58) Cox. The next residence lists Isaac (35), Mary A. (28), Sarah J. (4), Rachel (2) and Henry B. (24). James M. and Isaac (35) are the children of Isaac & Wealthy Cox. I have not yet identified the relationship of Henry B. Cox to the family, though it is safe to assume at this point, that he is related to the family. James, Isaac Sr. and Isaac Jr. were all employed as farmers. James was born in Tennessee, Sarepta in Kentucky. Isaac Sr. was born in North Carolina and Wealthy was born in Virginia. Isaac Jr. and Henry were born in Ohio and Mary, Sarah and Rachel were born in Indiana. James and Sarepta had been married within the past year. Wealthy Cox was listed as being unable to read and write and no one had attended school in the past year.
