Isaac DeForeest, Jesse's son, arived from Leiden, Holland, March 5, 1637. Isaac made the voyage aboard the ship, Rensselaerwyck. This ship was jointly owned by Isaac's uncle, Gerard DeForest, and Killian Van Rensselaer. The name de Forest,

underwent several tranformations due to the Dutch and English influence. The name became DeForeest because of the Dutch. Spelling at that time was not as important as to how the name was pronounced. If it sounded a certain way, it had to be

spelled a certain way. To the Dutch, this was the correct way. The founder of the DeForest family in America.
