About Isaac Messenger

Isaac Messenger, son of Joseph Messenger and Catherine Holcomb, was b. in 1717 in Granby, Conn. and died in 1801 in West Simsbury, Conn. He moved to West Simsbury from that part of Simsbury known as Granby in 1742 with his father, Joseph. They settled on a farm in the northwest part of the Center School District which Isaac inherited from his father at his death in 1763 (Brown - West Simsbury, p. 113). Isaac married Hannah Alford, date unknown. Hannah was b. in 1727 in the old parish of Simsbury before her parents moved to West Simsbury in 1739 in what is now called Missionary Lot on the east hill (p. 10, Early Settlers of West Simsbury --Brown, 1856). She was the daughter of Nathaniel Alford and Experience Holcomb.

Isaac Messenger was an expert hunter and his children were noted for being remarkably large, strong and robust.
