About Isaac C. "Ike" Stover

Isaac enlsted as a private in the Union Army at Swede Point (now Madrid) Iowa on Aug 1, 1861. He was mustered in as Third Sergeant in Company D, 10th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, at St Louis, MO on Sep 28, 1861. He was promoted to First Sergeant of Company D on Nov 12, 1862. He was mustered out at Larkinsville, AR, on Dec 31, 1863 and reenlisted as a Veteran Volunteer on Jan 1, 1864. He was promoted to First Lieutenant , Comppany D, on Mar 30, 1865, and mustered out at Little Rock. AR, on Aug 15, 1865. He participated in the folllowing battles: Island No. 10, New Madrid, Shiloh, Corinth MS, Jackson MS, Champion's Hill MS, Vicksburg MS, Missionary Ridge TN, Sherman's March to the Sea, and the Grand Review in Washington DC at the end of the war. He was wounded in the thigh at Tunnell Hill during the battle for Missionary Ridge at Chatanooga, TN. Isaac was Township Clerk and Assessor of Cass Township, Boone County, IA, for many years following the Civil War. He held all offices of Star Lodge 115, AF&AM, and was a member of J. Filmer Post 347, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in Madrid IA and Guthrie Post 252, GAR, in Woodward IA.
