M. Johnson 1600 North American Bldg. Philadelphia, PA % Connecticul General Life Ins. Co. Sir: I have to advise you from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim S. 43726, it appears that Israel Johnson enlisted in May 1775 and served almost one year and nine months in Captain Levi Wells Company, Colonel Wyllys Connecticut Regiment: and was in the battles of Long Island, and Harlem Heights; and enlisted in February 1777 and served in Captain Henry Champion's Company, Colonel Wyllys Regiment; January 1, 1781 he was appointed Sergeant in Captain Buells Company; Colonel Butler's First Connecticut Regiment; and was discharged in 1783. He was wounded in the hand at Danbury, and was also in the Battle of Elizabethtown. He was allowed pension on his application executed May 7, 1818, while a resident of Schroon, Essex County, New York, in the fifty-ninth year of his age. It is not stated that soldier was married. Owing to the very large number of similar inquiries and the lack of a clerical force available for the purpose, the Bureau is unable to make immediate reply to inquiries pertaining to soldiers of the Revolution. Such information is furnished by courtesy of the Government and without fee, and letters are being answered as rapidly as possible in the order of their receipt. Respectfully Winfield Scott Commissioner
